Plugin page →Quick answer: A UTM link is an ordinary URL with utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign parameters added so analytics tools can tell where visits come from. Enter your URL and values above, then copy the tagged link.
How to build a UTM link
Enter your page URL, then describe where the traffic comes from. A reliable naming convention matters more than any individual value: decide once (for example source=newsletter, medium=email) and reuse it everywhere.
- Source - who sent the visitor (
google,newsletter,linkedin). - Medium - the channel type (
cpc,email,social). - Campaign - the specific promotion (
spring_launch).
Frequently asked questions
What are UTM parameters?
UTM parameters are tags added to the end of a URL - utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign and optionally utm_term and utm_content - that tell analytics tools like Google Analytics where a visit came from.
Which UTM parameters are required?
Google Analytics expects source, medium and campaign. Term (paid keywords) and content (to tell similar links apart) are optional.
Should UTM values be lowercase?
Yes. Analytics treats Newsletter and newsletter as different values, which splits your reports. The “clean values” option lowercases everything and replaces spaces.
Can I use UTMs on internal links?
Avoid it. UTMs on links within your own site can overwrite the original traffic source of a visit.
